One of the best parts of summer is being able to head to the beach and swim in a warm, summer ocean!
Not only does Mother Nature’s swimming pool provide us with summer fun, but did you know that ocean water has actually been turned to for centuries for its rejuvenating and healing properties? In fact, in 1869 a French doctor, Dr. La Bonnardiere, coined the term Thalassotherapy (Thalassa is the Greek word for seawater; thalassotherapy combines that word with the Greek word for treatment) to describe the use of seaweed and seawater for therapeutic and preventative measures. In France, Thalassotherapy has been a treatment of choice for joint troubles and injuries. Today, people continue to use seawater as a prescription to ensure good health. Thalassotherapy is known to help relieve stress, chronic fatigue, improve circulation, revitalize the skin and body, and can help treat cellulite.
Seaweed, as you know is one of our favorite ingredients, is a concentration of seawater. So, how can you benefit from thalassotherapy when you can’t get to the beach? Easy.
